6. Athenian Democracy
An Athenian democracy and a modern representative democracy are slightly different but do have some mutual beliefs. An Athenian would criticise the modern democracy of its right to allow women to be leaders. The Athenians would also criticize the fact that the leaders of the mdoern democracy are highly educated and get paid because that affects the decisions made and also a democracy should mean that everyone has a voice not just the highly educated people. They would approve of the fact that majority rules. I believe that the Athenians wouldnt believe in a "2 party" system like the one we have with the democrats and the republicans. The Athenians got paid just not in the beginning. I also believe that the Athenians wouldn't like the long term that the president serves ( 4 years) because maybe they would think that its to much of one persons ideas and values and that change occurs with more than one opinion.

5. Mayan Values Exemplified in Modern Society
I believe that a lot of Mayan values are demonstrated in the modern world we live in today. In our world currently there are a lot of things that have originated from the Mayans but the Mayans aren't appreciated for them because they are thought of as "everyday" things. For example, as some of our classmates have presented and talked about the "3 sister." The three sisters were corn, squash, and beans. These three foods are obviously present and alive in the modern world. Another example would be the architecture of the Mayans, pyramids specifically. Alta Plaza Park in San Francisco has been influenced by the way the that the Mayans built their pyramids. A few of the popular sports nowadays could have been adapted from the ballgames that the Mayans played. Its hard to imagine but without the Mayans and their "values and technology" some of the vital things in the world, wouldn't exist. A lot of things were adopted from the Mayans and Mayan values live in our modern world.

4. Chinese Philospophies Comparison
Mohism and Legalism are the most different of all the philosophies and have very different views of how a state should be governed. According to Mohism, people are judged by what they think and what they do rather than just being judged by their actions. Mohism is more of a peacufl way to govern than the straight to the point approach that Legalism takes. Legalism is more of a harsh way to rule and asks for a ruler that will lead the state into wars and punish the people. Also according to Legalism, the state becomes stronger if the people were thought of as bad and not trustworthy rather than vice-versa. Legalism calls for harsh rule and the ruler will not try to convince anyone, wheares Mohism calls for universal love and thinks of the people as trustworthy.

3. Most Effective Way For a Ruler to Maintain Order
I think that the most effective way for a ruler to maintain order is for the ruler himself to set a good example. By doing this the people will have no reason not follow the ruler. If the ruler would disobey the law, the people of the city wouldn't follow them either. I think that this is the simplest method but not always the easiest. Another method that may have worked would be to have laws. Not just to have laws but to have punishments for disobeying the laws and the same punishment to everyone not just according to the social pyramid.

2. Responding to Jared Diamonds Thesis
I agree with Jared Diamonds thesis that technology in the modern world is based on geographical luck. Jared Diamond believes that the answer to Yali's question of why do white people bring so much "cargo" but black poeple have no "cargo". New Guineans view cargo as material goods and evidence of white man power. By agreeing with Diamond i think that since Eurasia and the Middle East had livestock and different crops they developed all this technology because they didnt starve and were fully nutriotioned. The reason that they had all these crops and technology is not because of any psychological difference but because of geographical luck. In my opinion if the New Guineans would be provided with the same resources that the Euroasians were provided with then the New Guineans would make more out of it. The reason why we have cars and computers and the reason why some New Guineans are still hunters is all based on luck of where they ended up.

1. Advantages and Disadvantages of Farming
I think the advantages of farming and agriculture outweigh the disadvantages. I think this simply because the advantages are that you care of the animals and plants and you know what they are doing the whole time, you don't need a lot of land to make a lot of food, and can feed a lot of people. I realize that hunting has nothing to do with this blog post but and advantage is that we do not have to hunt. The only disadvantage of farming that i can think of is that farmers occasionally use pesticides which can cause diseases for humans and if the pesticide gets in tomatoes that can also cause disease. Also even if the disadvantages would outweigh the advantages i don't think that humans would never go back to hunting and gathering because we have farming and agriculture. Also an advantage is the fact that besides hunting there is no other way of getting food to survive.
